America Online Graphics
AOL Users: America Online utilizes graphics compression in it's
software that claims to speed up the delivery of web pages to it's members by compressing
images before delivering them to you in the AOL software. The benefit might be a
slightly faster download of images (maybe saving a second or two) but as a result,
your images are distorted due to the high amount of compression used. AOL members
have the option of deselecting "Used Compressed Graphics" in their Web
Preferences.
Before
After
To check your settings in AOL 6.0, go to Settings / Preferences/Internet Properties
/ Web Graphics (tab) and uncheck "Use Compressed Graphics".
If you make this change and your images still look the same - this is because your
browser is caching the old images. In your AOL WWW preferences you can set your
history to "0" pages and clear the History. You must also delete the files
in your Temporary Internet Files folder by opening Internet Explorer and look under
Tools / Internet Options. The "after" image on the right
should be perfectly clear.

Certain features of this web site require Adobe's Flash browser plug in, version 6 or later.
