Overview
Considerable growth led JDB to consider a telework program. The goal of the program was to avoid relocation, alleviate scarce and expensive parking and attract and retain employees.
ProcessJDB implemented a telework program through Telework!VA. To introduce the program the company opened the option only to its best employees. Later, the option to telework was offered to employees who were relocating, that would otherwise have to leave the company. To date, JDB has 25 full-time and 10 part-time teleworkers, based everywhere from outside of Alexandria–to another time zone. The company pays for all related expenses, with the exception of web access. JDB’s telework staff is seldom in the office, but uses shared hotel space when needed onsite.
ResultsJDB’s telework plan has been a huge success. The program served as a solution to real estate and parking concerns, resulted in an enviable employee-retention rate, and allowed the company to hire from widespread geographical locations.
